Self Reflective Essay (10%):
Students will write a 2-3 page self assessment of the study abroad experience. The focus of this essay is open-ended, but we would like to see some reflection on things like: What did you expect coming into the class and what did you learn? What is the “value added” of studying Irish literature and history on site as opposed to at Geneseo? What skills did you draw on or improve in your work with the Yeats Summer School seminars? What were the challenges of navigating yourself in a cultural context that has some similarities but many differences from what you are used to in the United States? Before you leave for Ireland, it would be helpful to write down some of your expectations about the trip; a reflection statement written at the end of the trip that returns to these expectations can be a good way to frame the essay. This will be due by Saturday, 22 August.
