The Island of Ireland Peace Park was unveiled on the 80th anniversary of the WWI armistice on November 11th 1998. The project was initiated and carried out by A Journey of Reconciliation Trust, which was compromised of representatives from the main churches in Ireland as well as professional political and representatives and community leaders from both parts of Ireland. The project was shaped by an intent to give proper materialization for the Irish soliders of WWI. Its design functions to evenly honor Irish soldiers, both North and South, and promote reconciliation between the two parts. (1)
