The Dropkick Murphys are a Celtic Punk group, originating from Massachusetts in 1996. Their sound, in contrast to the other groups I’ve covered, is very brash and abrasive, with roots more in the traditional underground punk scene than anything else. The shows they play reflect these origins, lending themselves to hardcore show staples such as moshpits and crowdsurfing (as well as direct interaction with the audience, as seen below). As an Irish band outside of Ireland, the songs they cover often deal in working-class themes, diasporic memory, and an idea of heritage rooted in a more modern conception of identity.
