The Irish Potato Famine was an era in Irish history for which there was a great famine among the rural areas of Ireland. Often times, blame is set upon the British for the lives lost during this time. The British developed programs during this time to aid the Irish but still continued to take their rations of food that the Irish agreed to give the British. A lot of the civil service projects the British gave to the Irish often led to the deaths of the Irish. This is significant because it coincides with common idea that the British acted oppressive towards the Irish more commonly than not throughout their respective histories,
